Students win Be Kind Award

Year 8 students Amy and Freya have been awarded the John Caudwell Kindness in the Community Award. The Be Kind Awards recognise and celebrate young people not only for their academic achievements in school but also for their compassionate treatment of others and acts of kindness.

Amy and Freya serve as leaders of the OAT #WeWill Cook program. They have tirelessly led a team of 15 students in raising funds and encouraging charity work participation within their year group. Their efforts support the Lou Macari Foundation, an organisation which provides secure shelters for the homeless and those in need in Stoke-on-Trent. Through their dedication, they have successfully raised over £200 for the homeless shelter. Additionally, they have organised and led cooking events where academy students have prepared and cooked food parcels for the residents of the Macari Foundation. Furthermore, the students have contributed to revamping the allotments at their local primary school, Packmoor Primary, enabling them to grow their own food. Collectively, these students have dedicated over 40 hours since September to their charitable endeavours.

Amy and Freya are true role models for the academy, exemplifying kindness and providing support to those who are less fortunate.
